It’s a teaching toy! It’s a toy to help encourage imagination and creativity!This colorful, self-contained “puzzle” is more challenging than most puzzles targeted at ages 3 to 5 years old. Nevertheless, it is an excellent toy for allowing older siblings to “help” their younger brother or sister. All components of the “BeginAgain Counting Chameleon” are finished smoothly; there are no rough, burred or sharp edges to injure tender skin. Brightly colored painted pieces are free of drips or runs. The color progression is eye-catching and each piece complements the adjacent pieces.Each puzzle piece shows the number word in English and Spanish on its face. I plan to use a paint pen to write the numbers below the word names of the numerals. On the reverse side, the numbers go from right to left – NOT left to right. This may confuse youngsters. It is also the reason that I rated this puzzle four stars. Sizes of the pieces vary. All pieces are approximately ¾” thick.The puzzle component of this toy is an excellent problem-solving tool. It helps a child visualize the way items fit together to form a cohesive unit. The pieces of the chameleon fit together inside the rubber-wooden tray that also contains four “corner” pieces. This guides young puzzle-solvers by defining the space in which the completed puzzle fits.The “BeginAgain Counting Chameleon” is one of the nicest toys I have seen for your little ones. My granddaughter and her big brother love building the puzzle together. I love watching big brother guide his little sister as she learns to count and identify numbers. She is also learning to problem-solve through puzzle building.I bought this for my day care children are under age 5 it is pretty hard to do, nice because one side has capital letters and the other has small letter so 2 puzzles in one. The W broke I glues it together with crazy glue I have not put together I hope it works . If you have a child that needs a challenge this would be a great puzzle not like any other puzzle I have done. Out of 12 children I only have 2 that can do it without getting frustrated.We got this for our 1 year old; and although it is way too advanced for him, he loves the colors. I love putting it together with/for him and look forward to using it for years as he learns colors and numbers (and numbers in spanish!).The quality is awesome and I think this would make a great gift! We also have the BeginAgain Animal Parade puzzle which I highly recommend as well!I bought the butterfly as a gift for a 5yo, so I haven't played with it myself and neither has my son. I was told by the parents that their child enjoys the puzzle, though. I have used the Begin Again stegosaurus puzzle with my 5yo and he likes it a lot. These puzzles are more about problem solving, following directions and developing fine motor skills than they are about learning the alphabet, especially since most kids already know the alphabet before age 5. I do recommend keeping the picture that comes enclosed on the backside of the puzzle so the child can use it as a guide.I noticed a few reviewers said their toddlers struggled with this puzzle. The manufacturer's age recommendation is 5 and older. I understand some parents/grandparents think their children/grandchildren are smarter than average and buy them "advanced toys," but this isn't about intelligence. (See previous paragraph).I do recommend this product for the appropriate age group.Had to request a new letter because print is not consistent on pieces. Amazon sent a new piece right away but was not ideal. Keep in mind if you’re using for a gift/time-sensitive.Ok - First, It's a great puzzle, looks just like PHOTO, but at the time of this writing the DESCRIPTION states that it has the roman numerals on the back (because my kid thinks they are cool on the clock), which was why I bought it... so thought I'd write a review for anyone else who cared.But the puzzle itself is super high quality. Our main issue with every puzzle we've bought is how well the pieces fit together for someone with little fingers still learning that skill. The size is ideal, not too big or small, and the edges are well sanded so the puzzle pieces go together VERY easily - Zero frustration from my daughter on this one, so the focus is able to be on the numbers and orienting the pieces correctly. The wood grain shows through the paint in an attractive way and the colors are vibrant and fun. Really, really high quality piece.My three-year-old granddaughter caught on to the gist of this pretty quickly, although at her age she needed some guidance. She is just learning numbers.Received my puzzle and the sides of the tray were completely broken not on one corner but two corners. If this is going to how it survives shipping how is it ever expected to survive a kindergarten classroom. This puzzle was not cheap by any means so frustrated to have it arrive broken.My granddaughter loves it!The first one arrived with 3 broken pieces, but the second one was intact. The puzzle is a decent learning toy, but some of the letters are already wearing off after a few uses. Otherwise, my daughter loves it.High quality puzzle that has nice bright colours. Wooden pieces are not very noisy when banged together as kids do. Delivery was fast and the product is exactly as picturedKid loved it !
