We've had to wait so long since 'Le Donk...' that I'd lost faith in my own memory. I began to think that it was the film and Shane Meadow's way of telling a tale I loved and not really Scor-zay-zee.I bought this double CD with some trepidation but was rewarded with a really likeable, coherent, musical and at times witty product. The raps are remarkably engaging and tell vivid relevant tales. This album makes a nice flip side to the amazing stuff that the excellent Sleaford Mods are doing to help light up the "Nottz" music scene. Unlike the Mods this album can (mostly) be played in the presence of those for whom Jason Williamson's cussing might cause raised eyebrows. That isn't to say that Scor-zay-zee is a soft or easy listen - though it always feels very melodic - its just that his quirky East Midlands twang isn't constantly letting slip the C-bomb like the naughty (but wonderful) Mods! Its a long album, being a double disc CD, but it flies by. If you want to 'try before you buy' give 'Saturday' (disc 2) a listen. In some ways I was reminded of Roots Manuva's early output in terms of the delightfully observed references to UK urban life (no 'bitches and ho's' here!).Worth the long wait and further proof that Nottingham is becoming a City to take notice of musically. On 'Le Donk...' The Arctic Monkeys played a supporting role (!) and in some ways what 'Scor-zay-zee' has to say is reminiscent of Alex Turner's observations on society.Buy!
